Let’s explore the ideas and principles of minimalism and how it relates to decluttering.
Minimalism is a lifestyle choice centered on the idea of living with less or just enough. It helps bring into focus on what really matters the most in life. Minimalist prioritize experiences and relationships over material possessions. Both minimalism and decluttering share the goal of promoting simplicity in one’s life.
Adding decluttering to your daily routine will help you go through your items and streamline how much you own. It is the removing of excess that no longer serve you. Ask yourself questions such as if you have used a certain items everyday or occasionally or not at all.
You need to start prioritizing what items you value the most along with activities, too. For example, if you love bowling and you go to the bowling alley often, by all means keep your bowling gears. If you haven’t been bowling for a year or more, the chances that you are going to go is not likely at all. And at the end it is best for you to discard your bowling gears.
Be intentional about what items you bring into your home. Before buying anything consider if you really need it. If you are online shopping, just put the item in the cart and think about it first. Impulse buying creates clutter and it is best to focus on items that you will use.
Shifting your perspective from acquiring things to engaging in experiences that brings joy to your life. Traveling with friends, discovering new hobbies or doing activities that you enjoy helps enrich you life.
A minimalist lifestyle is a journey that you have to assess progress and make adjustment per your needs. Overtime you will refine your goals and the way you approach minimalism. It is just like decluttering, minimalism is not a one time task cause there is always room for changes for the better.
